Show Up, Feel Good, Live Better: Inside Cycle Town Studio, the South Shore’s Heartbeat of Community and Connection
Cycle Town
For both new riders and loyal regulars, stepping into Cycle Town Studio in Hingham is like entering a new world of fitness — one built around music, movement, and a powerful sense of belonging. Serving the greater South Shore area, Cycle Town isn’t just a boutique fitness destination. It’s a new approach to fitness altogether: providing more than a workout, but a chance to connect with and uplift one another.
“We want to make your day, your week, your life… better,” says Monica Mancuso, Head of Operations at Cycle Town. Whether you’re pedaling along to the latest Beyoncé song or pushing yourself to new limits alongside friends, the aim is simple: you leave feeling better than when you walked in.
That mission has been the guiding force since the very beginning. Cycle Town was founded by the late Kristen Grossman, who saw a need for joyful, communal movement in a fitness landscape that often felt too small and too sleepy.
“Kristen felt strongly that Hingham — and the entire South Shore — deserved more,” Monica shares. “More sharing and more connection. More pushing past limits and celebrating those wins together.”
And that is exactly what Cycle Town offers. Every 50‑minute rhythm-based cycling class is an invitation to shut out the noise of the outside world and be fully present — surrounded by a supportive team and a welcoming community that calls itself the Cycle Town Army. That community feeling creates an environment that functions less like a gym and more like a big, energetic family.
“Our workout is incredible,” Monica says, “but the friendships are irreplaceable.”
Though exercise is a key form of self-care, that caring and human-centered mindset extends beyond the bike. Cycle Town is deeply rooted in local partnerships and causes — hosting fundraisers for South Shore school teams and charities, gifting rides and prizes for local auctions, and teaming up with brands like lululemon Derby Street for special initiatives.
And when Cycle Town faced one of its most difficult chapters, the loss of its visionary founder, Kristen Grossman, the studio and its surrounding community showed up for one another in a major way. With the support of the South Shore, the team and riders rallied together to keep Cycle Town thriving.
“That loss was our biggest obstacle,” says Monica. “But Kristen built an incredibly strong foundation — a team and a business structure that allowed us to navigate the grief with grace. The way our community came together is a testament to her leadership.”
And the future looks bright. Cycle Town is carefully expanding its instructor team — selectively choosing new additions to maintain the highest teaching standard — and looking ahead to exciting new offerings like outdoor rides as well as more collaborations with local organizations.
“We don’t rush the process,” Monica emphasizes. “We want to make sure every team member is as committed to the podium as they are to their own personal balance. That way we can continue to offer exceptional classes without compromising what matters most.”
When asked what she loves most about the South Shore, Monica’s answer is immediate and heartfelt:
“The South Shore is incredible. It’s a worldwide vacation destination with small-town vibes,” she says. “Every town is steeped in its own charm and history, full of entrepreneurs and creators who make this area feel alive. It’s impossible not to feel at home here.”
And that feeling of home is exactly what Cycle Town hopes to offer every rider who clips in — a place to celebrate themselves, their health, and their connections to one another.
If you’re looking to make the most of your day, boost your mood, and join a passionate, welcoming fitness community, Cycle Town Studio is ready for you.

Find Your Rhythm at Beat Bar
BEAT BAR
An NYC-inspired cycling studio turns sweat into community on the South Shore
A Vision Set to Music
Walk through Beat Bar’s glass doors and the outside world fades: neon accents energize low lighting, sub-bass vibrates through polished concrete, and a subtle scent of eucalyptus hangs in the air. It’s the kind of atmosphere more often found in SoHo than in the suburbs, but founders—and sisters—Ju-Young Williamson and Jessica Main insist that was exactly the point.
“Music is the language we all speak,” says Williamson, who spent seven years teaching cycling in Boston before bringing that big-city buzz back home. Ju-Young, being a former native of NYC, wanted to bring its vibrant energy to south shore. “I wanted riders to feel something visceral the moment the first down-beat hits.”
The idea to develop a city-inspired cycling studio came to life five years ago during a late-night chat in their Duxbury kitchen. By dawn, Williamson had mocked up a logo on scrap paper; today, that same graphic glows behind the instructors’ riser like a badge of intention—proof that passion, planning, and a few gutsy leaps can turn sketches into brick-and-mortar success.
More Than Just a Workout
Beat Bar’s 45- and 60-minute rides are deliberately theatrical (and they’re beloved by cyclists for that reason). Rows of Stages™ bikes face a runway-style podium where instructors deliver full-body choreography, doing tap-backs and push-ups, and haloing hand weights in sync with the soundtrack. Between sprints, riders are cued to close their eyes, and breathe to the beat, and as Williamson often reminds them over the mic to drop whatever story isn’t serving them.
That mind-body connection is intentional. “We program every class like a set list,” explains Main, a former business manager who knows her way around all of the moving parts that go into running a company. “There’s a build, a release, and a finale. People come for the burn, but they leave on a mental high.”
At Beat Bar, community is more important than competition. Regulars celebrate each other’s milestones and motivations comes from other riders’ positive attitudes as much as the instructors’ encouraging words.
The Beat Bar Difference
While boutique cycling studios are no longer rarities, Beat Bar stands out for its philosophy and attention to detail. Despite the chic, modern, urban-inspired atmosphere, the studio isn’t intimidating; in fact, it’s just the opposite. Newcomers receive one-on-one guidance to ensure proper bike fit and form, with an emphasis on riding strong and safely. The goal isn’t just to break a sweat—it’s to build confidence and skill with every pedal stroke.
Equally special is the studio’s musical backbone. Every class playlist is handcrafted by the instructor, blending genres and tempos to take riders on a journey. From dance-floor anthems to unexpected acoustic drops, the music is more than background noise—it’s the heartbeat of the ride.
Perhaps most importantly, Beat Bar is grounded in inclusivity. Riders of all backgrounds, identities, and fitness levels are welcomed with intention. “If you want to move, we’ll make space for you,” says Main. “That’s the promise.”
Rooted in the South Shore
Though inspired by the aesthetics and pace of New York City, Beat Bar’s foundation is distinctly local. Ju-Young and Jessica have spent upwards of a decade on the South Shore. They’ve built their business on values that resonate deeply with them: family, resilience, and showing up for your community.
“This is where we learned how to take care of each other,” says Main. “So it means everything to create something that gives back to the community that shaped us.”
Even as the studio grows in popularity, the sisters are committed to keeping it personal. From remembering your name after one class to offering support through life’s ups and downs, Beat Bar is more than a fitness space—it’s a place to belong.
Looking to the Future
As momentum builds, Ju-Young and Jessica are focused on the future, but not at the expense of their founding ethos. Their next steps are all about deepening the studio’s impact: expanding class offerings, introducing community events, and continuing to foster an environment where every rider feels seen, supported, and strong.
“Our five-year goal isn’t about franchising,” Williamson says. “It’s about helping more people find strength, joy, and connection—one ride at a time.”
